In spring of 2006, I partcipated in the first Glass Apprentice challenge. The challenge was to make a new bead of a different specific style every week. This was interesting, and I found that this exercise spawned a lot of new ideas!
This is a technique that is sort of explananatory - provided that you are familiar with some glass lampworking vocabulary. Stringer is a thin piece of glass that is either purchased or made by the lampworker. Ivory is a specific color of glass. Silvered refers to applying an outer layer of fine silver leaf or foil to the glass. Therefore Silvered Ivory Stringer is a thin piece of ivory colored glass with silver on the outside. This can have interesting reactions to other colors of glass.
Raku (in this context) refers to a specific color of glass that is make by the German glassmaking company, Reichenbach. This is a nickname for the color, it is actually an opaque yellow. Raku, if worked properly, will give a surprising range of colors.
EDP is a specific color of glass that is made by the Italian glassmaking company Effetre. It is a beautiful color, but can present challenges to the glass flameworker. Of course EDP is not the real name of this glass, but is a nickname bestowed upon it (mostly in a loving manner).
